Rodney King was a African American victim to a brutal case of police brutality on March 3, 1991. Rodney was pulled over by the police after a high speed chase and was beaten brutally, this incident was caught on camera by bystander George Holliday his video was later presented in Rodney's trial. The four officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Wind, Theodore Briseno and Stacey Koon were charged with assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force by a police officer. Their trail was originally set in Los Angeles but defense attorneys argued that a trail in Los Angeles would not be fair due to "publicity." The trial was moved Simi Valley a white suburban part of Los Angeles, the jury for the trail consisted of 10 white people, a Hispanic person, and a Asian person there wasn't not one African American on the jury. A year later the jury concluded that the evidence was not enough to convict the officers. Within hours after the trail riots broke out in Los Angles after all of it over 54 people had lost their lives, over 7,000 people been arrested, and hundreds of millions of dollars worth of property had been destroyed. The 12 members of the jury let this horrific incident get away without any justice done for Rodney King some say the jury was racist and didn't wanna see any good come out of his case.

My name is Gina, I am in 10th grade I attend Roosevelt High School, My parents are both from Africa my mom is from Ethiopia and my dad is from Sudan, I have a passion for talking about the racial issues that go on in our country everyday. I'll be writing about the Police Brutality that goes on here in America. Police Brutality is one of several forms of police misconduct which involves undue violence by police members , this issue has been discussed and used over the years in America dating back all the way to the 1800's. Why I'll be writing about this topic is because this issue happens to often to people with color and it isn't fair. Police can choose a different way to handle the situation but instead use a violent approach.
